TT Strategy Lab

Need help pacing your cycling time trial? We've got you covered!

In 2025, I personally won 1st place in the UCI Niseko Classic TT (Age 60-64), using the same pacing strategy I now offer to others.

We use the course profile and your data to calculate your estimated finish time by factoring in air drag, gravity, rolling resistance, acceleration, and your power-duration curve. Based on this, we select several practical pacing strategies and send them to you, usually within one to two weeks.

Since you can also see your speed, it helps with gear selection.

Even for mass-start hill climbs, it's useful to estimate the maximum power you can sustain to the finish. Display heart rate and average power on your bike computer, and put a sticker with your estimated max power on the stem. This will help you judge whether to maintain, push harder, or hold back.

This becomes especially helpful if you find yourself dropped early in the race.
